Cricket Glossary

Recap of the terms used in cricket that you may have come across.

Arm ball:
A ball that has no spin bowled by a spinner.
Beamer:
A ball that goes directly above shoulder height, without pitching.
Bottom Spin:
A ball that has backward rotation, slows down after pitching.
Bouncer:
A ball which bounces above the batsman's shoulders.
Chinaman:
Left handed wrist spin, ball spins identical to a right handed off-spinner.
Doosra:
A leg break ball bowled by an off-spinner.
Flipper:
A topspin ball bowled by a leg spinner.
Googly:
An off-spin ball bowled by a leg spinner.
In-dipper
A ball that curves into the batsman before pitching.
Left arm orthodox:
A left handed finger spinner, ball spins identical to  right handed leg spin.
Leg Spin:
A ball bowled by a right handed wrist spinner that moves from right to left of the screen after pitching.
No-ball:
An ball which is illegally bowled (a foul).
Off Spin:
A ball bowled by a right handed finger spinner that moves from left to right of the screen after pitching.
Orange :
A very high velocity ball.
Top Spin:
A ball that has forward rotation, speeds up after pitching.
Wide:
A ball which crosses the batsman at a considerable distance (a foul).
